Case Study: Building a Future-Proof Network Infrastructure for a Ballycastle Corporate HQ
When a leading construction firm acquired their new corporate headquarters in Ballycastle, they knew their operations would require a rock-solid, high-speed network. In modern business, a lagging network means lost revenue.
When our team first arrived on-site to assess the building, we found an older network infrastructure built entirely on Cat5e cabling. While Cat5e was standard for years, it simply cannot keep pace with the massive data demands of a modern corporate headquarters—especially one handling heavy architectural blueprints, constant cloud syncing, and high-definition security feeds.
Rather than patching over an outdated foundation, we made the strategic decision to start completely fresh.
Step 1: Upgrading to Cat6 Structured Cabling
To ensure the building could handle maximum bandwidth with zero interference, we completely stripped out the legacy cabling. In its place, we installed a comprehensive Cat6 structured cabling network.
By terminating high-quality Cat6 modules directly into the office floor boxes and meticulously testing and labelling every individual data point across the office floors, we guaranteed the client would have a clean, easily manageable grid capable of supporting up to 10 Gbps speeds.
Step 2: The Heart of the HQ – A Full UniFi Stack
To manage this network with enterprise-grade security and maximum efficiency, we deployed a full, centralized Ubiquiti UniFi ecosystem.
Our tailored hardware stack for this project included:
-
UniFi Dream Machine Pro (UDM Pro): Serving as the ultimate “brain” of the operation. This enterprise-grade gateway handles everything from advanced firewall security and threat management to routing and local data storage.
-
48 Port Pro Max Switch: A high-performance switch providing robust power-over-ethernet (PoE) delivery to hardware across the office, ensuring massive data throughput with zero bottlenecking.
-
Next-Gen Security with G6 Cameras: We surrounded the property with UniFi’s latest G6 security cameras, providing the construction company with ultra-crisp, high-definition surveillance across their entire perimeter.
-
UniFi Viewport: To make monitoring as seamless as possible for management, we integrated a UniFi Viewport. This smart device allows security teams to stream high-density live camera feeds directly to an external monitor using a standard Cat6 cable—completely bypassing the need for a separate, laggy computer workstation.
Step 3: Feeding the Beast with Netii Broadband Full-Fibre
The most advanced internal hardware stack in the world is only as good as the internet line feeding it. To tie this entire infrastructure together, we provisioned and connected a dedicated Netii Broadband line.
By pairing ultra-fast, symmetrical fibre speeds directly with the UniFi stack, the HQ now boasts lightning-fast download and upload speeds, flawless video conferencing, and instantaneous remote file access for teams out on construction sites.
The Verdict
By replacing the aging Cat5e wires with a fresh Cat6 infrastructure, a unified hardware stack, and full-fibre broadband, this Ballycastle HQ didn’t just get an internet upgrade—they secured a bulletproof digital backbone ready to scale for the next decade.
